Orchestral
CRY
About
This work was commissioned by the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Repertoire Orchestra, for the end of term concert on the December 15th, 2023. The world premiere was conducted by Daniele Rosina.
“Merciless, bleak, and inexorable. Opening a sealed bottle, unleashing dense, raw, and unfiltered emotions that obliterate and consume everything in their path—a juggernaut of feelings.
The orchestra serves as a vessel, channelling these emotions. The focus is on timbre, evoking a harsh, aggressive, and dissonant sonic world, punctuated by moments of beauty and passion.
Instrumentalists often become absorbed in their individual roles, functioning as independent entities. This solitary pursuit strengthens their connection and intimacy with the work and the composer’s world. In essence, they are performers who, while sharing physical space with others, remain solitary in their journey. Their contribution is a poignant, solitary cry. The collective of these individual cries shape the work.” ~Vinícius Motta
