RECENT WORKS  COMPOSITIONS  ARRANGEMENTS

MOVING STILL

~9 minutes | string quartet
Moving, yet unable to let go. Wondering freely, anchored by an insistent behaviour. A restless longing to escape the stillness. Moving Still.

S. MEGURO: HEARTBEAT, HEARTBREAK

~6 minutes | chamber orchestra
Heartbeat, Heartbreak stands as one of the defining tracks in Persona 4, introduced shortly after the protagonist, Yu Narukami, arrives in the small town of Inaba. The youthful and brightness of the track hints at all social links and relationships the player will form while staying in Inaba.

EL SON DE LA NEGRA

~4 minutes | chamber ensemble
This arrangement was commissioned by Michelle Amezcua, for the México Mágico event on March 2024 at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Lively, with panache and cheerful. El Son de La Negra is one of the most traditional folks songs in México - some will say that it is a second anthem in México.

J. P. MONCAYO: HUAPANGO

~9 minutes | chamber orchestra
This arrangement was commissioned by Michelle Amezcua, for the México Mágico event on March 2024 at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. The huapango [musical] style originated in Mexico's coastal Veracruz region; its usual instrumentation is a violin, a small folk harp, and various members of the guitar family, which Moncayo sometimes evokes with pizzicato (occasionally even strummed) strings and orchestral harp.

STRUMMING

~5 minutes | unaccompanied violoncello
Strumming is a work that aims to emulate the sound world of the guitar through the cello. This is achieved by directing the performer to utilize pizzicato techniques throughout the piece, incorporating various guitar-inspired methods within the cello's pizzicato performance.
