Dr Kirsty Devaney – Young Composers Project Leader
Vinicius has been actively involved in music education and outreach initiatives across the West Midlands since 2019, focusing on fostering creativity and composition skills. He has partnered with esteemed organizations such as the Orchestra of the Swan, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Young Composers Project, Welsh National Opera, and Quench Arts to deliver engaging activities for young learners spanning both primary and secondary education levels.
Notably, Vinicius has contributed to inclusive music programs in collaboration with the Orchestra of the Swan and Priestley Smith Specialist School. Together, they have provided music-making, performance, instrumental instruction, and composition opportunities tailored to visually impaired and blind students. His dedication to these initiatives has led to successful performances and garnered recognition, including a feature on BBC Midlands Today in 2020.
From 2021 to 2022, Vinicius served as a music leader for Quench Arts’ Interface project, which aimed to engage young people from minority communities across Birmingham in the creative process of composing and performing music using electronic instruments as a band. As a member of the music leadership team, Vinicius played a pivotal role in facilitating sessions, with a particular focus on composition, synthesizers, electric guitar, and effects pedals. The culmination of this collaborative effort was the creation of Time Pressure.
Since Spring 2022, Vinícius has been fulfilling the role of composition mentor for the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) Young Composers project. This initiative focuses on engaging KS3 students in the creation of new music to be performed by BCMG musicians.
Additionally, from Summer 2023 onwards, Vinícius has assumed the position of composition tutor within the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Young Composers Project. This project specifically targets 14-18-year-old composers, guiding them in crafting original compositions intended for performance by both Conservatoire students and graduates.
