This arrangement was commissioned by the Romantic Revival Orchestra, and was premiered on 01/February/2024, at CBSO Centre (Birmingham), conducted by Leo Jaffrey.

Andrew Toovey’s Red Bird in this orchestrated rendition captures a vibrant and harmonically rich sonic palette. Initially composed for solo piano, the orchestration seamlessly utilizes the entire range of instruments, mimicking the piano’s diverse registers. The arrangement endeavours to replicate the piano’s characteristics, featuring a forceful attack, gradual decay, and note blurring to emulate the sustain pedal effect, creating a nuanced and evocative soundworld. This orchestration was dedicated to Andrew Toovey.
