This arrangement was commissioned by the Romantic Revival Orchestra, and was premiered on 01/February/2024, at CBSO Centre (Birmingham), conducted by Leo Jaffrey.

Augustin Barrios’ La Catedral is a significant work within his extensive repertoire for the guitar. This orchestration aims to showcase the unique aspects of the original composition while maintaining its essential character. The work consists of a reflective first movement, a choral-like second movement, and a lively and energetic third movement.

La Catedral is a work that classical guitarists will certainly be aware of, however, the general public and other instrumentalists will not necessarily be aware of Barrios’ works, and therefore, this orchestration also aims to highlight and promote Barrios’ music.
